Our Story
Where It All Began
In 1995, a good friend of mine, Moise would be my very first victim- since I put the clippers down. Funny, I remembered when clippers used to be clean comb and a single blade.
In May 1996, my big break came and I traveled to the United States to meet with my family.- And when I got here, unbelievedly, I no longer wanted to cut hair. All I could think about was working, making enough money to wear nice clothes and go to school. Within two months of my being here, I landed a job at the Opa- Locka Flea Market where I worked 12 hours for only $20. A couple months later I left the Flea Market scene just to try cutting hair again, but this alongside my cousin, Gerald G. Truth be told, I damanaged enought heads to have a lawsuit. Even the little kids said I sucked as a barber, and didn’t want to get in my chair. But I kept telling myself, My Destiny as an artist, in Barbering is a choice- not a matter.” I was determined not to give up. So I kept practicing, and critiquing myself, until I finally developed enough self confidence- eventually building my own clientele.
Honestly, I always knew that barbering was my first true love, I knew that it would be someday, take me somewhere BIG.
In 2008, I enrooled in (BSA) Beauty School of America for Barbering- and graduated in 2009 as a licensed professional barber. Today, I’m the proud owner and one of many operators at BackYard BarberShop.
